Behind the Blogger Tag!

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve done some tags so I thought I’d get around to answering one that I was tagged in fairly recently by Leslie @ Books Are the New Black! Thanks for the tag, lovely 🥰 If you haven’t checked out her blog, I strongly suggest you head on over there because her content is great!

If it isn’t obvious from the title, this is a tag that lets you readers get to know me a little better! So if you’re not keen on doing that (which is totally okay), you should probably leave now 🤣 Without further ado… Let’s get to it!

The Rules

Why did you start blogging? & Why have you kept blogging?

Being very honest, the main reason I started blogging was because I wanted to get (e)ARCs and I thought having a blog was one of the only ways to do that. 😅 When I started I’d already had my bookstagram running for a few months, and I was really focused on that more than my blog, but that’s completely changed now since I’m rarely on there.

I’ve kept blogging because it was so much more rewarding than I anticipated. I used to have a personal blog that I kept for almost 10 years but I stopped because I didn’t feel inspired anymore. Being part of the book community, sharing my thoughts, and having people actually read and relate to them has been so rewarding, but most importantly it’s meeting so many like-minded people that has kept me motivated with blogging! (And I really hope that doesn’t change any time soon!)

What is your favorite type of blog post to write?

I really enjoy writing the weekly meme posts which is what a lot of my blog contains on top of the reviews I write. #5OnMyTBR, Top Ten Tuesday, #WWWWednesday, First Line Fridays and Top 5 Saturdays are so fun to do and even though I’m horrible at choosing/making decisions about favourites, I’ve come to really love making these lists! I think since I blog on top of a full-time job these meme posts are just what appeal to me most because I still have to think but not as hard compared to if I were to write more discussion posts 😂

What are your top three favorite blog posts you wrote?

It’s so hard to pick favourites — I’m rubbish at that! So I’ve just chosen three random posts that I really enjoyed making!

What are some of your favorite things to do to relax?

Well, reading obviously! But I also really love gaming (although that’s not always super relaxing when you’re in battle or on a quest haha). Another thing that really relaxes me is colouring — it’s just so soothing not having to think about anything except what colour I’ll choose next. I also love to throw on my favourite playlists while doing other things (like colouring) or sometimes simply doing nothing but lying back and listening to the song lyrics (while singing along off-key)!

What are three of your favorite things?

  1. My family & friends (who are basically my family!) 💞
  2. Animals (especially doggos, pandas, and elephants)
  3. Food (especially Japanese, Mexican and Chinese)! 🤤

What are your proudest blogging moments?

As of 20 May 2020!

One of the blogging goals that I set for 2020 was to reach 500 followers and I actually reached that goal yesterday! 😭 I’m pretty shook (understatement) because I didn’t even think getting 100 followers would even be in the realm of possibility for me and my little blog! I’m so thankful for this community, for all the people who follow me, for the new friends I’ve made… It’s beyond anything I ever expected when I started this and (sorry if I’m starting to sound like a broken record but) I’m so grateful for all of it! 🥰

What are your hobbies outside of blogging?

It’s a bit sad but I honestly don’t have many hobbies outside of blogging (and reading)! Um… I do love singing and I’m part of a small community choir here. I also really love to bake — pies and cookies are my absolute favourites to make 😍 If this counts as a hobby, I also love colouring 🤣 One time I got a bunch of colouring books from my friends and I was the happiest little panda 🐼 Sometimes it’s the simple things, right?!

Describe your personality in three words

I really dislike answering these kinds of questions because I always have a hard time coming up with answers! If I had to say… Loyal, Compassionate, and Stubborn (AF) 😆

What are your top three pet peeves?

I wouldn’t necessarily say these are my “top three” but… they’re pretty high up on the list!

  1. People holding very loud and personal conversations in public. Must you really? 🤦🏻‍♀️
  2. People who walk very very slowly in the middle of the walkway/sidewalk — and to make it even worse, those who don’t move even when you say “excuse me”! 🙄
  3. People who are rude to workers. That’s vague but when I say workers I also mean waiters, cleaners/helpers, etc. Okay, this one is definitely in my top three (maybe even top two!) because I can’t stand those who treat people like trash just because they feel they’re better than them. Reality check: you’re really not. This is the toxic environment that I’m leaving and I couldn’t be happier! 😤

What’s something your followers don’t know about you?

Hmm… Hard to choose because I feel like there’s a lot that my followers don’t know about me 😁 But I’m going with the most random thing I can think of (that a lot of people in my real life probably don’t even know about me): I used to teach hip hop dance and break dancing with a friend when I was in high school. When I was in boarding school in Australia, I started an after-school dance club with a friend that counted towards my extracurricular credits! It was heaps of fun 😊

And that’s it folks! I hope you enjoyed reading those little tidbits about me — not very interesting but hey, that’s me 🤷🏻‍♀️ This was a lot of fun to answer so thanks again for tagging me, Leslie!

I’m Tagging:

Again, no pressure if tags aren’t your thing 😊 Even if you’re not tagged and want to do this, go for gold! Don’t forget to link back so I can read your answers and learn more about you too! 🥰

#TopTenTuesday: It’s because of the ‘GRAM!

We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is: books I bought because of… bookstagram!

I’m sure by now you’re all aware that book instagram or bookstagram exists. You might even have one and run it alongside your blog! Some days it’s hard to believe that I actually started on bookstagram and then took the big leap to start a book blog. It’s especially hard to believe now since I’ve basically all but abandoned my bookstagram 🙈 #shame But while I have you here (*shameless plug*), feel free to check out my bookstagram and follow me if you feel so inclined: @dinipandareads!

Last year I started a bookstagram and got quickly sucked into the book community! I fell hard and fast for all the beautiful hard covers and gorgeous accounts. I tried to “keep up” with the good looking posts by buying props etc. but it’s so hard to find quality things here I decided I didn’t want to spend all that money for it! LOL But there’s seriously something about seeing gorgeous books in aesthetically pleasing photos that give me some serious *grabby hands* feels. Does that only happen to me?! 😂 So here are some of the books that I absolutely needed to get my hands on all thanks to the ‘gram! Honestly, if it wasn’t for bookstagram I probably would’ve never even heard of some of these, so I really can’t be that mad, right?!

#TopTenTuesday: Signs You’re A Book Lover

We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is: signs you’re a book lover (basically, people know you’re a book lover because… i.e., you’re always carrying a book or two, your library card broke from overuse, etc.)

Friends, these last two weeks have been a time and my weary mind is finding it so hard to focus on anything (as I’m sure almost all of you can relate to). It’s insane! I think the only thing I’ve been able to focus on lately is gaming–not even reading and that’s the craziest part, right?! Maybe this week’s list will remind me why I can still call myself a book lover? 🤣 My brain is seemingly determined to forget what books are since I got my Switch Lite last week… I’m really hoping that something is going to suck me back into reading though, because right now I’m struggling to put down these games. But before I digress even further… here’s a list of 10 signs that I’m a book lover! 📖

#TopTenTuesday: Best Families/Friends in Romances

We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is: Genre Freebie (pick a genre and build a list around it! i.e., best/worst romances, non-fiction for travelers, memoirs for foodies, classics that feel timeless, romance novel kisses, science fiction that feels too real for comfort, women’s fiction for newbies, etc.)

As I’m sure you’ve noticed, I’ve been on a romance/romcom reading streak lately. I’ve tried picking up countless SFF books that I’ve been excited to read but intricate world building, science speak, and made-up/new languages do not seem to be the thing for my weary and anxious mind right now. But romances/romcoms have been a solid winner and they’ve brought much joy into my life!

I’ve come to realise that one of the reasons I love romance is because of the family/friend characters in the stories; not all of them have it but the ones that do are a shoe-in for favourites! I am a total sucker for great banter between siblings and groups of friends. They’re the kind of interactions that worm their way into my heart and make me feel happy and light–not to mention they’re usually the ones that have me “awwing” and cackling like crazy! So today I’ll be sharing a list of romances that have great families/friends and that you should definitely check out if you’re looking for something light-hearted, funny and maybe just a smidge sexy! 😉

#TopTenTuesday: Spring Possibility Pile!

It’s that time of the week again, friends! We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is: spring TBR possibility pile!

To say that I’ve got a ton of eARCs that need to be read over the next few months would really be a mild understatement. Why do I keep requesting more books and why do I keep signing up for more blog tours after telling myself I’d take a nice long break from it for a while? *shrugs* I got problems. As fun as it’d be to list all those books here, there are a few others that have been sitting on my TBR that I’d like to get to soon as well, so this is my possibility pile for those reads!

Would You Rather – Bookish Edition

I’ve been tagged by the wonderful Mani @ Mani’s Book Corner to do this post towards the end of last year and I’m finally getting around to it now! (Oops, sorry, I’m drowning in backlogged tags lol) Y’know, this type of post looks easy AF to do but for someone who’s notoriously bad at making decisions and who worries over the little things until they become big things, this took me much longer than expected to answer 😂 I always underestimate how my mind can kick off with its thoughts!

The Rules:

  • Answer the questions given to you by your nominator.
  • Make up your own questions and tag others.
  • Sounds easy, right? Well, let’s see…!

Would you rather have to read the last chapter of every new book first, or never read the last chapter?

Well, there are plenty of factors to consider here and one of the most important ones for me being an international blogger is $$$. I don’t have access to libraries in Indonesia (welp) so that means the majority of what I read, I have to buy! I just don’t know if I’ll always be rolling in the deep for the rest of my life so it’s gotta be standalones.

Would you rather have someone ruin the ending of a book for you or never finish a book you were reading?

Oh snap! I think… I’d rather have someone ruin the ending of a book for me than not know how it ends at all. OR BETTER YET: I’d rather never finish a book I was reading but have someone “ruin” the ending by telling me what happens. That totally counts, right?! 😏

Would you rather lose your place or get a paper cut every time you read a book?

OMG NO! I’d much rather lose my place than suffer the pain of a paper cut, thanks! 😅

Would you rather be friends with Hermione Granger or Matilda?

I would choose teenage Hermione towards the end of the series. As fun as it’d be to befriend Matilda, I think I could have a much better time with Hermione, especially as she’ll be closer in age at least to me 😅

Would you rather wait five years for the final installment in a series or get it now, but must read every spoiler before you can start reading it?

Oh, tough! Well, considering how many years I’ve been waiting for the final instalment of The Kingkiller Chronicles…. Lol I mean, it’s been SO LONG since the second book came out and although I’m impatient for the final, I’ve also been doing pretty well on holding out for the goods 🤣 so I think I’d survive waiting five years for a final instalment!

Would you rather reread your least favorite book monthly or never be able to read your favorite book again?

I’m really not much of a re-reader in the first place because I’m always wary about whether my thoughts/feelings on a book will change between reads. So I know this is gonna sound crazy but I’d pick never being able to read my favourite book again! 😱

Would you rather read in an isolated cabin that was infested with spiders or in a noisy coffee shop with bad music?

You lost me at isolated cabin but then you throw spiders into the mix and it’s just a completely big fabulously fat NO. I don’t care how distracted I’d get and how annoying the music would be, I’d always pick that noisy coffee shop over that nightmare 😂

Would you rather have the ability to read minds, but never able to read another book or live as you are now and keep reading?

Yeah, as cool as reading minds might seem, I would be so sad if I never got to read another book so I’ll keep living as I am now, thanks!

Would you rather read a novel based on a true story of someone you know or a fictional novel where a character is based on you?

Ooh, this is a great question! I think I’d be interesting to read a fiction with a character based on me! I don’t know if this sounds really weird but I think it’d be interesting to see how an author would perceive me and my experiences and write me into a book! 😂 I hope that doesn’t sound conceited!

Would you rather have a book where anything you write in it becomes true or have a book that contains all the knowledge of the universe?

Um, yes to the first please! I would obviously make sure that only positive things go into that book so that they’ll come true! Imagine all the amazing and wonderful things you could do for everyone and for mother earth?! It’d be amazing!

Now is the part where I cheat because I know I’m meant to make my own questions but I really enjoyed answering these ones, so I’m going to stick with them (hope you don’t mind, Mani)! Tagging a few people below but no worries if tags aren’t your jam! Also, even if you’re not tagged but want to do this, please do and don’t forget to tag back so I can check out your answers! 🙂

#TopTenTuesday: Authors I Follow on Social Media

It’s that time of the week again, friends! We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is: authors who have a fun social media presence.

I almost skipped this week’s TTT for the first time since joining in weekly because I honestly don’t follow that many authors on my social media accounts? Not for any particular reason other than the fact that I just don’t? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I think there’s only one author who I follow religiously on all platforms I’m on and he’ll be at the top of my list. There are a few other authors whose tweets I do enjoy reading whenever they come up on my feed though so they’ll be making up my list for today!

#TopTenTuesday: One Word Titles

It’s that time of the week again, friends! We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is: books with single-word titles! This prompt was submitted by Kitty @ Kitty Marie’s Reading Corner (who you should definitely go follow right now)!

What would I ever do without Goodreads? I would fail, that’s what. I would never be able to do these posts because my memory fails so hard. I really couldn’t come up with one title until I looked at several lists on GR and realised that I have read a few books with single-word titles! Plus, plenty of them are actually books from series that I love, so I can’t believe that I couldn’t think of any titles to start 😂

#TopTenTuesday: Characters I’d Follow on Social Media!

It’s that time of the week again, friends! We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is: characters I’d follow on social media! This fun and creative prompt was submitted by Tilly @thebiblioshelf

Wow, this is such a great prompt–following my favourites on social media is something that I would’ve have even thought of but that doesn’t mean that a few names didn’t immediately pop into my head! I loved a lot of these characters because they had me laughing endlessly with their witty banter and cheeky humour. I think following any of them on social media would be so much fun!

#TopTenTuesday: The Dreaded Book Hangovers!

It’s that time of the week again, friends! We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is: the last ten books that gave me a book hangover!

This is a toughie because I really can’t remember the last time I had a book hangover? I don’t think I have them that often and most of the time it’s because I try to push through those feelings (and I guess I’m pretty good at it)! 😂 When I think about books that have given me hangovers, they’re usually the ones that leave me so emotionally devastated and thinking “what in the actual f did I just read?!” They’re the ones I can’t get out of my head when I want to try reading something new; the ones whose stories and characters play on an endless loop because I want more of exactly that kind of emotional devastation (such a masochist but it’s true). Some books I’ve read lately have high book hangover potential, namely Love Lettering, but I refuse to allow myself to dwell too long on the feels because I have book deadlines! But the characters are definitely lingering in my mind.
