Animal Crossing New Horizons Book Tag!

We all knew this day was coming right? Animal Crossing New Horizons has… Taken my life and turned it upside down in the most addictively soothing and relaxing way ๐Ÿคฃ We know I’ve been obsessed with it ever since it came out and I’ve not read nearly half as much because I’ve basically spent all those free hours playing ๐Ÿผ

By the way, if you wanna visit, just add me! Friend code: SW-4593-0344-8127

But anyway, back to the tag at hand… I stumbled across it on Beth’s blog and we know that nobody has to tag me to do this one! This tag was created byย Angharad and Becky atย Two Book Thieves. Now without further ado, let’s get to it ๐Ÿ˜

Past Villager:

Who is a character you found when you were younger that still has a place in your heart?

This was actually a tough prompt to answer because my mind was blanking hard, but after a while I thought of Elizabeth Wakefield of the Sweet Valley Twins — the shy, smart, and bookish sister. I admired her a lot growing up and I think she was the first character that made me feel it was okay to be smart and bookish, and that being ‘popular’ isn’t the end all of your young life ๐Ÿ˜‚ Sounds lame but it’s true!

Blather’s blatherings:

I’ve mentioned this book over and over, time and again on here but I feel like The Shadow of the Wind is still such an underrated read. We all know I’m not big on magical realism either but everything in this book was just… *chefs kiss!* It was nothing like I expected but I loved every minute of it!

Celeste’s wish:

what is a future book release you wish you could read now?

Right now I’m super keen to read Unravel the Dusk, the final book in The Blood of Stars duology ๐Ÿ˜ I read Spin the Dawn in January and absolutely loved it. I signed up for the blog tour with The FFBC for the sequel convinced that I wouldn’t get in on it but… I did and I’m so freaking excited!!!

The first one that came to mind was the sister-ship between Nishat and Priti in The Henna Wars. I loved it — it wasn’t perfect but it was so real and relatable! Their sibling banter was on point and it reminded me a lot of my own interactions with my sister ๐Ÿ˜Š Their support and love for each other was so clear to see and it was really heartwarming.

Unpopular opinion time! Please don’t hate me… But the first character that came to mind was Alex from Red, White and Royal Blue. I’m truly sorry that I didn’t love him… He just really grated on my nerves and in the end I only wanted more Henry time! He really should’ve had a POV…

I can really only choose one? Because I can’t. I’m going to choose two (whatcha gonna do about it): Jay Kristoff and V.E. Schwab. This answer will surprise no one LOL I think they’re the only authors whose books I have special (and multiple) editions of! I love their stories and their characters always worm their way into my heart, plus they just do morally grey characters so well.

what is your favourite fictional family (found or otherwise)?

Oh man, I think we know by now that I’m a total sucker for a great fictional family, found or otherwise. But I have to shout one of my favourite fictional families is the Knightley family (especially the brothers!) from Meghan Quinn’s Getting Lucky series. They’re all hilarious and I love their love and support for each other! Honestly, just give me all the great family dynamics because I’m all for it ๐Ÿ˜

It’s a C+:

what is a trope you don’t like that keeps popping up?

There are only a few tropes that I really dislike but the love triangle trope is really just not my jam and I think people need to stop writing about it. Kidding! But no, I really don’t like that trope. No matter how well it’s handled, I feel like someone always gets hurt. Plus, I usually can’t take the angsty feels! ๐Ÿ™ˆ

the wandering camel:

I can’t not go for The Simple Wild for this one! I mean, first of all, I couldn’t pick a further real life location from Bali than Alaska, which I have a slightly low-key obsession with. With the already beautiful landscape and majestic setting, we have fabulous character growth and an absolutely delicious enemies-to-lovers romance that had me swooning for days ๐Ÿ˜

what would dodos do?:

a fiction land you wish you could fly away to at any moment

I’m going to choose the great wide galaxy of Saga. I mean, it’s crazy messed up but also immensely cool. Most importantly though, I don’t think I’d die within the first five minutes of setting foot anywhere in this galaxy, which is obviously always very important to consider!

And that was the Animal Crossing New Horizons tag, friends. I’m not tagging anyone specific for this but if you’re keen to give it a go, then go ahead and have fun! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anonymous Bookaholics Tag

I wasn’t tagged to do this post so of course I’m going to be doing it before all the ones I’m actually tagged in! ๐Ÿ™ƒ I saw Kirsty @ Caffeinated Fae post this on her blog today and it looked like a fun and short tag to do and since my mind is clearly not gunning for the “heavier” stuff right now I thought why not do it!? So here I am and here we go…

What do you like about buying new books?

Does “everything” count as an answer? Well, except for parting with my money… ๐Ÿ’ธ But no really, I love the new book smell, I love adding an anticipated read to my shelves, I love discovering a new book that I’ve never heard of before. I love walking out of the story with new worlds full of delicious possibilities waiting to be discovered!

Reading Habits Book Tag

I was recently tagged by Leah @ Leah’s Book Reviews and Recipes to do the Reading Habits Book Tag*. For some reason I’ve been distractable AF all of today so I thought I would do a short, fun and easy book tag and this one seemed to fit the bill! Thanks for the tag, Leah ๐Ÿ˜˜

*This tag was originally created by TheBookJazz.

Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

I just read on my bed now. But when I used to live in my flat, I’d read on my couch on days when I wanted to feel slightly less lazy by moving one room over and plopping down on the couch ๐Ÿ˜‚

Bookmark or random piece of paper?

If I remember to find a bookmark before I start reading then I’ll use a bookmark. If not, then a random piece of literally anything will do!

Would You Rather – Bookish Edition

I’ve been tagged by the wonderful Mani @ Mani’s Book Corner to do this post towards the end of last year and I’m finally getting around to it now! (Oops, sorry, I’m drowning in backlogged tags lol) Y’know, this type of post looks easy AF to do but for someone who’s notoriously bad at making decisions and who worries over the little things until they become big things, this took me much longer than expected to answer ๐Ÿ˜‚ I always underestimate how my mind can kick off with its thoughts!

The Rules:

  • Answer the questions given to you by your nominator.
  • Make up your own questions and tag others.
  • Sounds easy, right? Well, letโ€™s seeโ€ฆ!

Would you rather have to read the last chapter of every new book first, or never read the last chapter?

Well, there are plenty of factors to consider here and one of the most important ones for me being an international blogger is $$$. I don’t have access to libraries in Indonesia (welp) so that means the majority of what I read, I have to buy! I just don’t know if I’ll always be rolling in the deep for the rest of my life so it’s gotta be standalones.

Would you rather have someone ruin the ending of a book for you or never finish a book you were reading?

Oh snap! I think… I’d rather have someone ruin the ending of a book for me than not know how it ends at all. OR BETTER YET: I’d rather never finish a book I was reading but have someone “ruin” the ending by telling me what happens. That totally counts, right?! ๐Ÿ˜

Would you rather lose your place or get a paper cut every time you read a book?

OMG NO! I’d much rather lose my place than suffer the pain of a paper cut, thanks! ๐Ÿ˜…

Would you rather be friends with Hermione Granger or Matilda?

I would choose teenage Hermione towards the end of the series. As fun as it’d be to befriend Matilda, I think I could have a much better time with Hermione, especially as she’ll be closer in age at least to me ๐Ÿ˜…

Would you rather wait five years for the final installment in a series or get it now, but must read every spoiler before you can start reading it?

Oh, tough! Well, considering how many years I’ve been waiting for the final instalment of The Kingkiller Chronicles…. Lol I mean, it’s been SO LONG since the second book came out and although I’m impatient for the final, I’ve also been doing pretty well on holding out for the goods ๐Ÿคฃ so I think I’d survive waiting five years for a final instalment!

Would you rather reread your least favorite book monthly or never be able to read your favorite book again?

I’m really not much of a re-reader in the first place because I’m always wary about whether my thoughts/feelings on a book will change between reads. So I know this is gonna sound crazy but I’d pick never being able to read my favourite book again! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Would you rather read in an isolated cabin that was infested with spiders or in a noisy coffee shop with bad music?

You lost me at isolated cabin but then you throw spiders into the mix and it’s just a completely big fabulously fat NO. I don’t care how distracted I’d get and how annoying the music would be, I’d always pick that noisy coffee shop over that nightmare ๐Ÿ˜‚

Would you rather have the ability to read minds, but never able to read another book or live as you are now and keep reading?

Yeah, as cool as reading minds might seem, I would be so sad if I never got to read another book so I’ll keep living as I am now, thanks!

Would you rather read a novel based on a true story of someone you know or a fictional novel where a character is based on you?

Ooh, this is a great question! I think I’d be interesting to read a fiction with a character based on me! I don’t know if this sounds really weird but I think it’d be interesting to see how an author would perceive me and my experiences and write me into a book! ๐Ÿ˜‚ I hope that doesn’t sound conceited!

Would you rather have a book where anything you write in it becomes true or have a book that contains all the knowledge of the universe?

Um, yes to the first please! I would obviously make sure that only positive things go into that book so that they’ll come true! Imagine all the amazing and wonderful things you could do for everyone and for mother earth?! It’d be amazing!

Now is the part where I cheat because I know I’m meant to make my own questions but I really enjoyed answering these ones, so I’m going to stick with them (hope you don’t mind, Mani)! Tagging a few people below but no worries if tags aren’t your jam! Also, even if you’re not tagged but want to do this, please do and don’t forget to tag back so I can check out your answers! ๐Ÿ™‚

The End of the Year Book Tag

I wasn’t tagged to do this one but I first saw it on Jenn @ Jenniely’s page and immediately thought I’d love to do it, especially after doing the Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag! I really can’t believe it’s the end of the year already. We’ve got less than one week until we’re ringing in 2020, friends! How is it even possible when sometimes it still feels like February only just ended the other day?! Craziness… Anyway, without further ado, let’s get to it!

Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

I started The Goldfinch during The Worst Reading Slump of 2019. It was a bad time for my mental health and now whenever I think of picking it up again, I just feel dread… I wanted to read Good Omens before the show came out but I wasn’t in the mood for it and it was tough to concentrate. The same goes for My Lovely Wife! I hope I can at least finish one of these before 2019 ends!

Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

I’m… Not sure what this means? An autumnal book? But… It’s not autumn? Or am I just confusing myself? Lol

Is there a new release youโ€™re still waiting for?

I’m taking this question to mean are there any more books that are coming out that you’re looking forward to and the answer would be no! 2019 has been an incredible year for books but there’s nothing else I’m waiting on now!

What are three books you want to read before the year ends?

If I really only had to pick three of the many, it’d be these: The Queen of Nothing (I just finished TWK and I’m not putting this off anymore!), The Toll and Well Met!

Is there a book that you think could still shock you and become your favorite of the year?

Ooh, I feel like this is a pretty tough question to answer because I’m not even sure if I can say what my favorite of the year is! I’m notoriously bad at making these kinds of decisions. I’m thinking of all the books that I still want to read before 2020 (beyond the three above) and I think there’s a strong possibility for one of them to be a contender… I’m not going to name which book though because I don’t want to jinx myself ๐Ÿคช

Have you already started making reading plans for 2020?

I’m surprised to say YES to this question! In previous years I’ve never really made plans for reading but now that I have a blog and am participating in blog tours and have eARCs to read before certain dates, I’m hoping to get better organised by setting up a proper calendar for when I need to finish books! I really want to get on top of my eARCs (NetGalley mostly) in 2020 because then I won’t feel so guilty requesting more books to read ๐Ÿคฃ

And that’s a wrap folks! I still can’t believe 2019 is pretty much over. I still have to think about my favorite books of the year and that’s for sure going to be a tough one since I’ve never read so many books in one year until now ๐Ÿคฃ I think I’m looking forward to the challenge though! Let’s see if I’m saying that by the end of it lol

It’s okay if you don’t like tags or don’t feel like doing this one. No pressure at all! Also, even if you’re not tagged and want to do it, consider yourself officially tagged! Don’t forget to link back so I can see your answers ๐Ÿ˜‰

Book Festival Book Tag!

I was recently tagged by Siobhan to do the Book Festival Book Tag! It was originally created by the ladies over at Book Princess Reviews, when she became inspired to create a bookish tag after attending Yallfest this year. Sounds like fun, right? Let’s get to it!

.x. pingback to the creator of the tag, @bookprincessreviews .x.
.x. tag the person who tagged you, @siobhansnovelties .x.
.x. find an answer to match each prompt .x.
.x. have fun! .x.

Author Lineup
Name your top three authors that you would like to meet

Hmm this is a bit of a toughie but I think I’m gonna go for: Neil Gaiman, V.E. Schwab and Taylor Jenkins Reid! But there are really so many, even smaller authors

The Official Schedule
How do you determine what books youโ€™re going to read next?

I’m a slave to my moods! It’s particularly tough because 90% of the time I’m not even really sure what mood I’m in ๐Ÿ˜… What happens then is I take a good, long stare at my bookshelves and see what title jumps out at me. Or I’ll start reading the first few lines/paragraphs/pages of some books and see which one hooks me in. It’s completely random!

ARC Drops
What ARC would you wait hours in line for?

I would give so much to get my hands on an ARC (or even an eARC) of The Heart Principle by Helen Hoang or Wild at Heart by K.A. Tucker. It would be a total dream to receive an ARC of either of these (a dream because I know it’ll never happen for me lol)! But really, I’m at high risk of swooning like a fool if I could get my hands on Quan’s story ๐Ÿ˜‚

The Swag!
What bookish merch/pre-order incentives/etc. is your favorite?

I’m a sucker for pretty much any book merch? I went through a phase where I was obsessed with bookish candles! I love book sleeves too. I also really enjoy special excerpts or deleted scenes or extra stories — like what Jay Kristoff did with Darkdawn and what he and Kaufman did with Memento when Aurora Rising released! So precious ๐Ÿ˜

The Panels
What topic would you love to see some of your favorite authors talk about?

I’ve loved reading about more diverse characters this year, especially about Asian-American or “Westernized Asians”. Their struggles with their cultural identity and growing up in two “different” worlds (the home and the outside) is something that I’ve 100% related to, so it would be amazing to hear some of these authors talk about this issue. It would also be great to hear some authors discuss mental health in books, not only for YA and/or adult, but also for those “inbetweeners” (like the 30s people even though yes, I know 30s is adult…ish lol).

Yallfest, Yallwest, Bookcon/BookExpo, YALC, Etc.
What book festival/con would you go to if you had the choice?

To attend any kind of book festival I’d have to travel all the way across the world. But I’ve recently really been toying with the idea of going to Bookcon in New York either in 2020 or 2021. Luckily for me, one of my close Dutch colleagues just moved to New York and she’s a bit of a reader too, so it’d be nice to go together!
(Then I’d take advantage of being on that side of the world and visit a few famous nationwide bookstores ๐Ÿ˜‰)

Ah, a short, sweet, simple and fun tag! Just what I was in the mood for ๐Ÿ˜Š

The Identity Crisis Book Tag!

I stumbled across this post on Loretta’s page (which by the way is awesome and you should defo check it out if you haven’t yet!) several months ago and it looked like so much fun that I couldn’t wait to try it myself. But of course with life, reading, and all the awesome tags out there, I’ve only just now got around to doing it! It involves one of the things that I secretly really love to do on the interwebs: take quizzes! Yes, I’m a quiz-taker-lover! Especially when it’s a book related quiz but also pretty much any rando quiz I come across; you can bet that I’d love to do it, if I haven’t already done it ๐Ÿ˜‚ This tag is then pretty perfect for me! Here’s what Loretta has to say about her tag:

“Now here we are! All of these quizzes tell you who you would be if you were in that specific universe. I tried to stick with the same quiz makers as much as possible for the sake of consistency, but was forced to stray on a few of them. Each fandom title links back to the original quiz I took (at this point youโ€™re like, please for the love of god, stop saying the word quiz), so you all can take them too. So go forth and prosper. May the odds be ever in your favor. MWAHAHAHAHA!!”

With that said… Let’s get to it! First up are THE RULES:

  1. Take all the quizzes down below and record your answers somehow. I decided to just copy the text from each quiz and paste it into my post, but screenshots work too! Whatever floats your goat (Yes goat. I SAID WHAT I SAID).
  2. NO CHEATING. You get one shot to take each quiz my friends. Iโ€™m watching you. โˆ—Suspicious squinty eyesโˆ—
  3. Use this post to give credit to the creator Loretta @ The Laughing Listener or tag me on twitter @LaughnListener so I can see everyoneโ€™s answers!!
  4. Tag some friends to spread the fun!

The Reader Problems Book Tag

This is another one that I wasn’t tagged to do but I saw it ages ago on Hรขf’s page and decided that I felt like doing an easy Wednesday tag (I’m realizing that a weekly trend might be developing now)! So let’s get going:

You have 20,000 books on your TBR, how do you decide what to read next?

I’m a mood reader so it would depend entirely on what mood I’m in? Honestly, I’ve been thinking of making a TBR jar where I write down all the books I own on a slip of paper, put them in the jar and randomly pick one every time I finish a read. But again, mood reader!

The Book Snob Tag!

Despite having a million tags that I was actually tagged in but haven’t done yet *cough* I saw this tag on Emer’s page a while ago and decided that it was a fun quick tag that I wanted to do! Don’t you just love book tags?!

ADAPTATION SNOB: Do you always read the book before seeing the film?

I’d be lying if I said “yes, always” because *looks at LOTR* but for the most part I do! There are so many adaptations (both films and shows) that I haven’t watched yet because I haven’t read the book and I’ve convinced myself that I’ll want to read the book first so, yeah. I swear I’ll get to all you beauties eventually!

FORMAT SNOB: You can only choose 1 format in which to read books for the rest of your life. Which one do you choose: physical books, eBooks, or audiobooks?

BUT WHY? I want to say ebooks because I travel so much and I’d love to be able to keep all my books with me wherever I go for always, but… Do I really think I could ever give up physical books? Nup! Physical books it is then! ๐Ÿ˜‚

SHIP SNOB: Would you date or marry a non-reader?

UM… In a perfect world I’d only date people who read lol I mean, that’d be really ideal. But… I guess I’m not opposed to dating a non-reader IF they’re understanding about what books and the book community mean to me! If a person can’t support me with my bookish love then buh-bye. Sorry not sorry–ain’t nobody got time for that!

GENRE SNOB: You have to ditch one genre โ€“ never to be read again for the rest of your life. Which one do you ditch?

Hah, this isn’t hard because I am the ultimate chicken and I rarely, if ever, read this genre: I would ditch horror in a heartbeat! ๐Ÿ˜…

UBER GENRE SNOB: You can only choose to read from one genre for the rest of your life. Which genre do you choose?

I… I don’t know! Part of me really wants to say contemporary romance because I’M A SUCKA FOR DA LOVES but I’m gonna go with contemporary fiction. Even though I feel like I’m betraying my fantasy love by saying that, please see Darcy gif above and forgive me ๐Ÿ˜…

COMMUNITY SNOB: Which genre do you think receives the most snobbery from the bookish community?

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: ROMANCE! Why do people have such a strong dislike towards romance? I mean, my reading about romance doesn’t affect you so why does it matter what I enjoy? I will say that I’m glad to see more non-romance readers opening up to reading the genre lately and finding that they enjoy it! It’s a sweet satisfaction ๐Ÿ˜

Now wasn’t that a fun tag?
Don’t forget to tag me if you do this tag so I can see your answers too!

This or That Book Tag

A little while back I was nominated by the lovely Leelynn @ Sometimes Leelynn Reads to do the This or That Book Tag! As you well know by now I’m pretty bad at doing tags on time but I do get around to them eventually ๐Ÿ˜… Not sure where the original comes from but I’ve seen a few people do it and I’m excited to join the ranks. LET’S DO THIS!

BED ALL THE WAY! If I had a comfy couch I’d probably read on there most of the time but as it is, it’s covered with all the books that … I can’t fit on my shelves anymore ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

male or female main character?

Hmm… That’s a tough one. I like both male and female main characters but I’m going to have to go with female. I usually relate to these characters more but I realize the majority of my books have female MCs! Not that I have anything against male MCs, obviously.

sweet or salty snacks while reading?

This is gonna sound like a weird realisation but… I’ve been figuring out lately that I’m much more of a salty snack panda than a sweet one! Sure, I like my chocolates, but gimme some crisps or better yet chips or cheese and crackers or salty popcorn any day! Salt bae got me covered LOL

trilogies or quartets?

Trilogies! I’m not mad at quartets but I like to get through series quickly (most of the time)! I also prefer to not wait forever for all the books to come out if it’s a new series, so the shorter it is the better it is for my impatient ass! ๐Ÿ˜‚

I’m a night owl, plus I have major sleep issues, but most of my free time is also after work, so I’m usually doing the most reading at night!

I don’t mind both POVs… But I like first POV more? I think? I’m so indecisive omg lol

OK, first of all I’m gonna say that I wish they had libraries here because they don’t and it makes me sad. So obviously, bookstores. I mean, my bank hates it but I don’t! LOL

I’m a sucker for a good cry so I’d probably pick up a book that’ll make me cry. I mean, who doesn’t love a book that’d make you cry, right?! It makes you feel all the feels and you build such a connection with the characters too. Love it!

I love white book covers. Especially when they’re brand new — it’s like they’re sparkly even though they’re not?! They picture so well too. I love white covers ๐Ÿ˜

character driven or plot driveN?

OH, THIS IS SO HARD! ๐Ÿ˜… I think I’m going to have to go with… Character driven! It really does depend most of the time, but I think if I can connect to the characters (and I mean really connect to them) then it’s okay if the plot is blah. Even if the plot is good, I will find myself bothered if I don’t connect to any of the characters of if I find them annoying / boring.

And that’s it folks! WASN’T THAT FUN!? I’m feeling a little lazy at the moment so I’m just going to say that if you feel like doing this tag then…
