#WWWWednesday: 25 August 2021

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week, I’ve managed to finish five books and I’m happy to say that all of them were ARCs—yay! 😍

Taken to Lemora (Xiveri Mates #6) by Elizabeth Stephens ★★★☆☆
This was another entertaining and fast addition to the Xivery Mates series. Lemora might be my favourite alien planet so far because the city was a giant melting pot of alien races and cultures, and it felt so vibrant and alive! Everyone was extremely friendly, helpful and accepting of others and it just served pleasant and happy vibes that I was totally here for. Raingar and Essmira were great but I especially loved Essmira because Stephens does a great job writing smart and headstrong heroines! Check out my full review.

My Dirty Duke: A Victorian Novella by Joanna Shupe ★★★☆☆
I’m gonna be honest, I read this for the smut and it definitely delivered! This is an age-gap romance, which is not something that I normally ever read but I wasn’t bothered by it in this story. There’s not much in the way of character development or a strong plot, and their relationship to each other is already an established thing, but I liked both the Duke and Victoria. I thought they were both interesting characters and that the author handled the emotional and moral struggle (especially on his part) well! Obviously, I liked the steamy bits and it did get quite steamy pretty quickly. The Duke ticked that dirty-talking hero box and so if that (and historical romance) is your thing, I would recommend checking this out (especially if you have KU)!

Surrender: An Erotic Short by Rilzy Adams ★★★★☆
I picked this up solely cos of Nick’s horny meme and I’m not ashamed to admit! It was fun, fast and super steamy (phew, really heating up that Kindle, lemme tell ya) and the perfect transition read to my next romance. If you’re looking for a sexy read with characters that have real personality and intense chemistry, look no further!

Slippery Creatures (The Will Darling Adventures #1) by K.J. Charles★★★½
It took a little while for me to get sucked into this but when I did, I really did! Slippery Creatures was a good balance of mystery and romance set in the Golden Era (1920s) and I found myself enjoying both aspects of the story in equal measure! The mystery had me gripping the edge of my seat and the romance had me swooning with its steaminess! I absolutely adored Will Darling and I was so curious to see what happened next that I immediately moved onto book two. Check out my review!

The Sugared Game (The Will Darling Adventures #2) by K.J. Charles ★★★★½
With the character and scene already set, the pace of The Sugared Game was much faster than book one! I ended up loving Will Darling even more than I did at the start of this but I also gained a deeper appreciation for the “infinitely unreliable, oddly vulnerable, painfully desirable Kim”. There is so much depth to these characters, plus the writing in this is just *chefs kiss*! It was so clever and I absolutely loved it! RTC.

I’m currently around 75% through Subtle Blood which is book three in the Will Darling Adventures. It’s the last book in this trilogy and I’m sad to see it end because Will and Kim have become one of my new favourite couples and this series has slotted its way into one of my favourite historical mystery/romances! I’m planning to finish it in bed tonight after I post this! 😊

I’m about 56% done with Before the Coffee Gets Cold. I didn’t manage to finish it before the weekend was over and I know it’s gonna make me weepy so I wanted to wait until my work week was over. It’s so beautiful and moving and I would recommend it if you’re looking for a quiet but touching story. I hope to finish it tomorrow!

I didn’t end up reading any ARCs in the last week so I’m hoping to tackle more of them before August ends!

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading! 😍

  1. Happy Wednesday, Dini!

I keep seeing you talk about the Will Darling books and the covers look really interesting. I’m trying to read Seven Days in June now. It’s good, but I hit the part that’s a little traumatic to read, so I put it down.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your week!

My theme for this WWW Wednesday was “foodie” books. Here’s my post:

A Pho Love Story by Loan Le & Somewhere Between Bitter and Sweet by Laekan Zea Kemp (#BookReiew #WWWWednesday)

    1. I would definitely recommend the Will Darling books. As much as the mystery intrigued me it was the way the characters were written and the writing style of the author that really had me hooked! I still haven’t seen Seven Days in June around the blogosphere yet but I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it, if you do pick it back up again ❤️ Happy Friday!

    1. Lots of novellas to keep the momentum going! I can’t believe I never read novellas as palette cleansers between books but I’m loving doing that now 😝 And yes, slashing the ARC list feels *so* good especially when you’re terrible with reading them on time, like I am! 🙈

    1. I actually just started reading that one last night after finishing my two ‘current’ reads. There’s so much hype around it that I’m admittedly intimidated but I’m also looking forward to diving in. I hope you’re enjoying it 😃
