#TopTenTuesday: Books Overboard (Buh-Bye)!

So, we’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is: Books I’d gladly throw into the ocean

Well, this was a pretty fun topic! Thankfully I have Goodreads to remind me of all the books that I’ve rated one-two stars and these are the books that I’ll feature in today’s post. I’m gonna keep it simple and just link the book titles to the Goodreads pages. Most of these I read ages ago and so I didn’t actually write reviews for them but they are also books I will never ever revisit so it is what it is? 😂 I’m really not good at chucking books (just thinking of all the books I’ve read once and didn’t fully enjoy that are still sitting on my shelf but I’d gladly do away with these!

I’m also gonna say: please don’t take offense if one of these was a favourite of yours or if you really enjoyed it—we all have different tastes, and we can’t like all the books we read, right? On that note, let’s get to it:

Den of Vipers
I had to say: I just finished this book and it’s officially the worst book I’ve ever read. I really really really don’t recommend it (unless you hate yourself which clearly I do for inflicting it on myself lol-sob why) 😭😂
Tess D’Urbervilles
The Casual Vacancy
The Cuckoo’s Calling

Hot Dog Girl

American Psycho
Into the Water
Gone Girl
Lord of the Flies
One Hundred Years of Solitude

Do you find it easy to get rid of books that you don’t like or are you like me? 😂 What books would you chuck in the ocean? Any of these? 🤪

    1. I don’t think I’ve ever hated characters as much as I hated the ones in Gone Girl. I mean, I know that was probably the point but wow, it got to the point where even the crazy twist couldn’t redeem it for me 😂 I know my opinion is in the minority though! Lol

    1. Yep, it was a school read for me too and I *hated* it (which was honestly a ‘first’ for me cos I enjoyed most of the required reading at school! I would’ve defo DNF’d it if it wasn’t assigned 😂

  1. I never did Girl in Water after reading Girl on the Train- I guess I liked Train okay (didn’t love it) but hemmed and hawed about her next one and just… never did. Gone Girl too I guess didn’t wow me.

    1. I didn’t read Girl on the Train before Girl in the Water cos I had a feeling I wouldn’t enjoy it with all the comparisons to Gone Girl—I definitely think I made the right decision in not picking it up 😂

  2. I’m not alone! I actually DNF’d Gone Girl and felt like I was the only person who wasn’t a fan. I don’t even remember what exactly made it so I didn’t like the story, but I remember being bored and having a hard time liking any of the characters.

    1. Oh, it’s so nice to find other people who also didn’t like Gone Girl! I swear I was in the minority with my opinion cos so many people rave about it! It was the characters that made it awful for me cos they were HORRIBLE people—like, I genuinely cannot think of more unlikable characters (I mean, I could but y’know… Haha) 🙈

    1. Totally agree—SO boring. SO dry. So unlikeable but people were raving about it (probs cos of who the author is more than anything) and that’s why I gave Cuckoo’s Calling a try but sadly found that it fell so flat for me too. I’m honestly glad I didn’t like them (also for obvious reasons lol) 😜

  3. I TOTALLY understand why you didn’t like Gone Girl. I actually liked it because I have a psych degree and the craziness was really interesting to me. haha. I mean she was cray… but I can see why people don’t like it. The characters are hard to enjoy! I haven’t tried any of the other Rowling books and I’m glad!!

  4. I haven’t read a book by Thomas Hardy, but it’s RARE that I like one of his stories as a film/TV adaptation. I should have used my low-star ratings as a guide for this topic! Why didn’t I think of this!? 😀 Thanks for visiting my topic on this week.
