#WWWWednesday: 23 December

IT’S THE SECOND TO LAST WWWWEDNESDAY FOR 2020!!! WHAT?!

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week I managed to finish five books:

Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston ★★★★
Love love love. I wrote a pretty gushing review about this. I had a feeling I’d enjoy it when I read the blurb but I didn’t expect it to love it as much as I did. Alston creates a fantastic supernatural world in parallel to our real world, and this was fast-paced and action-packed and had a wonderful heroine! Check out my full blog tour review.

Special Delivery (Always Satisfied #5) by Lauren Blakely ★★☆☆☆
There were two stories in this book and I found both a little meh. The first one had strong insta-love feels and then the accidental pregnancy trope was thrown in at the end. It was so convenient and it was a no for me. The second story was a ‘forbidden’ sister’s best friend to lovers romance and while the chemistry was a bit stronger there, I still didn’t connect with the characters. In both stories our H/H came across as much younger than their age and it was just… “eh” 🤷🏻‍♀️ Guess you can’t win ’em all!

Bad Blood by John Carreyrou ★★★★★
This non-fiction has been on my TBR for ages and I’ve heard crazy good things about it. Holy granola! All the rave reviews were spot on. This book had me questioning whether I was reading some sci-fi thriller gone completely wrong or whether it was really non-fiction. Everything that happened with Theranos and Elizabeth Holmes (and Sunny Balwani) was so incredibly messed up. I can’t believe I finished this in ONE DAY! I defo rec the audiobook. RTC very soon!

That Swoony Feeling (Getting Lucky #4) by Meghan Quinn ★★★★☆
Can someone make Port Snow a real place that I can go visit (and then eventually move to), please? I love this town and of course, the Knightly brothers! 😉 I’ve been so keen for Brig’s story and I wasn’t disappointed with it, though I was surprised by how much I wanted to knock him upside the head cos for the most romantic of the bunch, he was really blind to his own. It was a little infuriating! 😂 This was also the steamiest in the series as that slow burn + chemistry = explosive heat! 🥵 RTC!

Jingle Wars by R. Holmes & Veronica Eden ★★★½
I was hoping to love this more than I did but it was still a quick and fun holiday romance. Also, reviewers were defo not lying when they said it was steamy cos this went 10/5 steamy for a good 50% of the book. So if you’re not into steamy reads, I’d give this one a hard pass! BUT if you’re looking for an extra cheesy, intensely festive (in the most positive Christmassy way), and super steamy romance then this is most definitely the one. RTC!

I’ve got a fair few reads going on right now. Crowns of Croswald is a title that has cycled through my “currently reading” list a few times already and though I’m (still) making progress, it’s very slow going as my attention keeps drifting! Question for you: Do you or have you ever DNF(d) books by authors that directly reached out to you?

I’m reading A Case of Need for one of my last POPSUGAR prompts (medical thriller) and although I’ve loved a few of Crichton’s books, I’m finding this one a little dry so I’m not sure how I feel about it… Permanent Record is for another POPSUGAR prompt (first book I touched on my shelf with eyes closed) and I’m kinda hitting struggle town with it. I’m about 30% but I put it down the day before and have yet to pick it up again. I loved Emergency Contact by Choi and it hurts me to say I’m not really loving this one (yet?)… I picked up my ARC of Spellmaker, book two of the Spellbreaker Duology, on a whim this morning and I’m really enjoying it and can’t wait to keep reading it after I post this! 💙

Here are some possibilities for the pile that I will surely be straying from–probably to read more Christmas romances? I don’t know. Because I’m a trash human I do have a few overdue ARCs that I’d like to at least attempt ticking off my list before 2020 ends, so let’s see how we go!

How is your reading week going and what are you currently reading? Hope the rest of your week goes well!

    1. Woohoo! I hope that Cemetery Boys comes in soon for you! I feel like even though Crescent City is a bit of a chonkster, knowing how easy it is to speed through Maas’ books, I think it’ll be a quick one! At least I hope so 😜 Good luck with the ARCs, KB! Happy reading ❤️

  2. I was surprised to see the Crichton book on your list, and then you said it was a bit dry and that made more sense to me 😂 it’s definitely time for seasonal romances!!

  3. I have seen a lot of good reviews on Amari and the Night Brothers!! I’ve added it to the TBR list. I hope you got through Permanent Record. I’ve seen so many mixed reviews that I haven’t picked that one up. So disappointing because I LOVED her last book!
