#TopTenTuesday: It’s not always about books…

So, we’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is: my non-bookish hobbies!

This week’s prompt shifts away from all-things-bookish-all-the-time and has us sharing more personal bits about ourselves so we can get to know each other better ☺️ While I definitely had to gear my brain up for the change in topic, I thought this was a fun prompt to do because it made me actually stop and think about the things that I enjoy doing aside from reading–although I’m not lying when I say that reading/books take up the vast majority of my time outside of work. 😂

Baking – I absolutely love to bake and I often find myself getting side-tracked on YouTube and end up spending a good long while watching Preppy Kitchen and marking recipes to make asap. I love getting lost in the rhythm of baking 🙂

Gaming – If you’ve been around a time or two on the blog (and Twitter) you’ll probably notice that I post a bit about Animal Crossing! I’m also low-key obsessed with the Final Fantasy VII Remake, Ghost of Tsushima, and Last of Us (I spend half my time screaming in fear)!

True Crime Podcasts – This is a more recent hobby that I’ve picked up. I started listening to My Favourite Murder and I’m a little obsessed. I know there are tons of other true crime podcasts out there, but I don’t even know where to start looking! LOL please share recs if you have any! Also, for any other podcasts you think I should check out coz I’m keen to branch out 😉

Bingeing Criminal Minds & Grey’s Anatomy – I’ve been obsessed with these two shows since the very beginning and they’re the ones I come back to time and again. They’re my favourite “comfort shows” even though one is gruesome and about serial killers, while the other is often OTT drama; but it just works for me!

Graphic Design & Drawing – I taught myself to use Adobe InDesign and Illustrator through YouTube and I can’t draw for skittles but I love graphic design and drawing. I’ve signed up for a few courses on Creative Live about creating easy(-ish) and cute graphics using the shape and pen tools and I have so much fun with it!

Singing/Music – I don’t do this a lot in public, but I love singing. I used to be in the chamber choir back in high school and in Bali I joined the very small community choir for a time. My voice has gone to bits over the years but I still have a lot of fun singing along to my favourites in my room 😂 I can spend hours watching music videos and discovering more about lyrics and meanings in songs!

Planning Planners – I guess my Passion Planner is similar to having a bujo because I love regularly buying and finding new stationery to use for my planner and then trying to make my layout functional and cute! Give me all the colourful pens, highlighters, and stickers, please! I haven’t been so consistent this year but I just got some new daily planners (from Passion Planner!) and I’m bubbling over with excitement at the thought of using them next year! If you have any fave items or online shops, please let me know so I can check them out 😉

What I wouldn’t do to go back here…

Traveling – Thanks to my dad’s job I’ve been a traveler all my life and I love every minute of traveling. There’s something so freeing about traveling. I love the feeling of exploring a new place and falling in love with it. Meeting new people, catching up with old friends. And the food! Always the food 😍 There are so many countries on my bucket list and there are even more places I want to keep coming back to time and again. I just hope that I’ll get the chance to do it all 😊

Lastly, one of my biggest hobbies is dabbling in different hobbies 😂 I’ve tried out various hobbies over the years to see if I have any interest in them and some have stuck more than others, but I also want to keep at surfing, scuba diving and learning languages again (especially the latter)!

What are your non-bookish hobbies? Would we have things in common aside from the books we love? 😂

  1. Great list, Dini! I can’t wait for when it’s safe to travel again. 😊 Ooh if you like true crime podcasts then you might like Up and Vanished? Especially because the case they covered in the first series is in the middle of being solved thanks to the podcast!

    1. Ah, I can’t wait until it’s safe to travel again, too!
Oh, wow! That podcast sounds really cool and it’s being solved thanks to the podcast!? That sounds right up my alley. Is that available on iTunes or Spotify? I’ll defo check it out 😀 Thanks, Jess!

  2. I love your list! I’m jealous that you’ve gotten to travel so much, especially since I love traveling and have only been to a handful of places so far. And Grey’s Anatomy and Criminal Minds for the win – I could watch those shows over and over! Oh wait, I do 😂

  3. I like gaming, too.

I didn’t realize there were instructional videos for graphic design on Youtube. That is so cool. Graphic design is something I’ve been trying to get better at.

    My post.

    1. I love that there are a lot of gamers in the book community 😃
There are some pretty good videos on YT on how to use Illustrator and InDesign for different things and I’ve learned a lot through that and exploring myself. It’s loads of fun 🙂

    1. YAY, BECKY! I feel like meeting people who love to read and then also doing other things that I love to do outside of the book world is just an even bigger bonus! I’m so glad I met you through the blogosphere 🥰

  4. I love planning soo much. I have gone through three Passion Planners and I love them. It is fun to look back through them; they become a little journal or book of memories, which is pretty cool. Love your last hobby; gave me a little chuckle! But I think that is wonderful you dabble in different hobbies! 🥰

    1. I feel like I’m good at planning but need to get better at keeping to my plans 🤣 Haha that sounds so silly, doesn’t it? I just got PP Daily’s for next year and I’m SO excited to use them! I’ve only had PP for two years (this is my second year) and have been using the annual weekly ones. But I definitely want to have more fun with it using the dailies 😀
Haha I love trying out different hobbies and seeing if one will stick or not 😛 Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Haha nowadays I’m definitely mostly singing in my room or in the shower as my voice was not what it used to be 😆 but it’s still loads of fun and definitely makes me happy, too! Do what you love and all that, right? 😉

    1. Hehe they were pretty good! Turned out less flat and chewy than I expected but fluffy and chewy is okay too! 😂 Omg, I’m obsessed with collecting stickers, pens and washi!! I have so much washi that I don’t know what to do with them half the time LOL I’m pretty sure all planner people are in the same boat with us there 🤣

      1. Yeah Dini, you’re so right! In real life is very hard, most of my friends don’t even read one book in a year. It’s really nice to find people here, in the blog community, with common hobbies and interests, that makes me feel that I belong. 🙂 The topic this week was great!

  5. Such a great list, Dini! We were obsessed with the first season of Serial, the true crime podcast about the murder of Hae Min Lee. We haven’t listened to the other seasons yet. We always listen to podcasts on road trips, but sadly, we haven’t been able to go on any this year. I miss traveling so much, too. We also enjoyed the podcast, S-Town. It was crazy! 😉

  6. It is hard sometimes to find things that have nothing to do with our reading hobby haha.

I didn’t write a ttt this week but I enjoy drawing and bujo, and trying out recipes. And watching The Incredibly Dr Pol and detective shows haha.

I’ve currently got a Happy Planner mini. Mmm.. those cookies look so good. My husband is an amazing baker but I am not! Cooking- I’m great but my baking turns out not so great.. haha!
