Sundays in Bed With… #MyWeeklyWrapUp

We’re back with another Sundays in Bed With… meme! This meme dares to ask you what book has been in your bed this morning and is hosted by Midnight Book Girl. Come share what book you’ve been you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed with, or which book you wish you had time to read today!

This Sunday I’ve spent the majority of the day in bed with The Extraordinaries by T.J. Klune. I haven’t been able to get that far into it yet because I’m finding it more than a little difficult to focus this weekend. What I read did have me laughing out loud at times and I can already tell what relationships I’ll be loving in this book. This is Klune’s YA debut and I’m keen to see if it’ll leave me feeling the same way I did after finishing The House in the Cerulean Sea last week. Hopefully I’ll get a bit more reading in this week.

Some people are extraordinary. Some are just extra. TJ Klune’s YA debut, The Extraordinaries, is a queer coming-of-age story about a fanboy with ADHD and the heroes he loves.
Nick Bell? Not extraordinary. But being the most popular fanfiction writer in the Extraordinaries fandom is a superpower, right? After a chance encounter with Shadow Star, Nova City’s mightiest hero (and Nick’s biggest crush), Nick sets out to make himself extraordinary. And he’ll do it with or without the reluctant help of Seth Gray, Nick’s best friend (and maybe the love of his life). Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl meets Marissa Meyer’s Renegades in TJ Klune’s YA debut.

What are you currently reading?

I have no idea where this weekend went but I feel so… unaccomplished? Lol I’m quite sad that another weekend has basically come and gone but I guess with so little to actually “do” since we can’t leave home, it’s hard to not feel a little listless and restless at times. The pandemic situation in Indonesia is progressively getting worse and most of the areas around where I live (including where I live) are red zones, so we’re trying to limit our movements even more and have taken to doing more weekly food shopping, etc., online. The light at the far end is feeling pretty dim right now, friends! Sigh.

On a more positive note, Disney+ landed in Indonesia yesterday which means that I can finally watch Hamilton. Watching Hamilton has been on my bucket list ever since I heard the songs for the first time… and getting to finally watch it with the original cast (*squee*) makes me so, so happy! I’m still waiting for my sister to make time because she wants to watch it together but honestly, I’m tempted to just watch it alone first and then again with her. Once will definitely not be enough! Also, I made chocolate-chip banana bread today and the house now smells like warm + delicious baked goods, and it’s such a comforting scent 😂

Reading & Blogging Recap

I had a pretty decent week of reading and blogging. This was the first week in a while that I haven’t had a blog tour so I’ve been posting a few backlogged reviews. I still feel a little behind on blog hopping but at this point I feel like I can’t catch up on everything that I’ve missed before so I’m just going with what’s been recently posted! Overall, not a bad reading/blogging week. Here’s what I posted this week ICYMI:

Review: Force of Nature (Aaron Falk #2) by Jane Harper
Review: Get A Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert
First Lines Friday: 04 September
Review: The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune
#WWWWednesday: 02 September
#TopTenTuesday: Books That Make Me Hungry
August Monthly Wrap Up
Goodreads Monday: The Field Guide to the North American Teenager by Ben Philippe
Review: Fable by Adrienne Young

TRACK HIGHLIGHT

This song is pretty different from the ones that I usually listen to but it’s so catchy? LOL Plus the video aesthetic is my favourite and it just makes me want ice cream 🍦

I hope everyone is managing to stay healthy and safe, and are doing well! Let me know how you’ve been in the comments below.
Take care of yourselves and of each other, friends 🖤

  1. I’m so glad you’re getting to watch Hamilton!! Once wasn’t enough for me either. LOL! I do hope the COVID situation improves quickly for y’all. COVID is still present here, but it’s not rampant right now. It’s affecting less than 1% of our population. We just have to wear masks in public buildings. I hope The Extraordinaries is awesome for you!

    1. Okay, so I started watching a bit of it already but my sister caught me and got angry LOL so I stopped but omg even watching the opening scene had me breaking out in goosebumps all over. I felt so emotional 😂😂😂 It’s good to hear that the COVID situation there isn’t as bad, I hope that we can eventually get to that point. I just don’t think our government is handling it well at all and their ideas of “herd immunity” is just so dumb. It’s frustrating! Anyway.. Hope you’re having a good week, Ali!

  2. I hope you will enjoy The extraordinaries as much as the House in the Cerulean Sea. It’s on my list because I want more of that feelgood-cuteness.

I also hope that COVID numbers and quarantine will drop soon where you are. We have had a little spike in Summer and then it went down again, but now it sort of stabilizes at rather high values, so I am afraid we will be getting more serious measures again. We currently can go to work/stores/cinemas but we need to wear masks everywhere and we can only have very few social contacts.

And have fun watching Hamilton – I haven’t seen it yet; Disney+ only starts next week here.

    1. I picked up The Extraordinaries precisely for that reason. I just want to wrap myself up in all those feel good vibes right now lol I’ve put it down to focus on some blog tour reads but what I’ve read so far I’ve enjoyed. It is a bit of a slow build up, like Cerulean Sea as well, but I’m keen to get back to it!

Ah, COVID just really needs to bog off lol I’m sorry to hear that the numbers are high where you are. Hopefully it won’t spike too much and things will get back to the “new normal”. At least for now you can still go out and do “normal” things, just with more caution!

Hope you enjoy Disney+ when it gets there. I’ve been loving it so far 😍

      1. I am really looking forward to read The Extraordinaries, just thinking about all the feel good vibes.

Yes, as long as we can do some “normal” things I will be fine for the moment. For me the hardest thing is my family lives in the country next door (like 100km away) and the numbers are high either here or there so I haven’t seen them in real life for over two months… Hope things will improve soon…

        1. Ah, that’s definitely tough when you’re separated from family. I hope that you all manage to stay safe and healthy ❤️ I’m hoping for all of us that things improve soon! … I think that’s why I’ve been so eager to escape into those feel-good reads lately! Lol

  3. I feel you about the pandemic situation here in my part of America. We’re trying to stay home as much as we reasonably can and most days I do pretty well but I’ll admit I miss walking around malls with my friends! I’m so excited that you can finally see Hamilton! I got to see it in person when it was touring and it was so worth it! You should share a review!

    1. Yeah, I definitely miss just being able to go out and see friends, but also work outside of home because the motivation levels are hitting an all-time struggle for me 😂 But… Still trying to keep positive! Omg, seeing Hamilton live is STILL on my bucket list if ever the day comes! LOL, watching the first scene of it already had me breaking out in goosebumps so I can imagine how crazy amazing it must’ve been seeing it live!

  4. Yay for Disney+! I am addicted to it, haha. Sorry the Covid situation is getting worse. It’s still not normal over here but it’s getting a bit better. I still try to limit where I go though. I hope things get better!

    1. OMG I’ve been sooo excited for it and I’m so happy that it’s finally here! Haha
Glad to hear that things are getting better over there. Definitely still trying to keep positive here but some days it’s just disheartening. Hope you’re having a good week, Joanna 💙
