So, we’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is: books that should be adapted into Netflix shows/movies (submitted by Nushu @ Not A Prima Donna Girl).
I always see a lot of people commenting about how they always think about what books should be made into shows or movies but I actually don’t ever think about it? Well, not never but not often and usually not until I’m asked! 😂 But once I started thinking about it I realised there are quite a few I’d love to see as either. Although whether I’d actually watch them or not would be a totally different thing because just like with all the books waiting to be read on my physical/digital shelves (look at me calling myself out), I have a long as list of shows/movies that need to be watched, too. I mean, eventually… Right? 😅
Sadie: I think this would be such an awesome show! Especially with the podcast and mystery elements plus the different timelines and perspectives. I would love to see it come to life on the screen!
The Kiss Quotient + The Bride Test: I can actually see this playing out as a really awesome show where the romances are playing out around the same time and it makes my little Asian heart so happy! Pls can has this in life?
The Lunar Chronicles: This would be such a fun high-stakes adventure sci-fi show. I could see it all happening as one big show like GoT and it would be awesome 😍
One of Us is Lying: This was a fun mystery/thriller that was set in high school and gave me some serious Breakfast Club + How to Get Away with Murder vibes. I think it’d be a great show or movie!
Neverwhere: This is my favourite Gaiman book and American Gods comes in a close second. I haven’t seen the American Gods show yet but I’d love for this one to also be made into a show!
We Were Liars: This is a book that has really mixed reviews and although I actually (somehow) predicted what was actually happening with our MC, it still managed to emotionally shake me. I really think this would make a great short show!
The Simple Wild: I loved this book so much. I want to experience the Alaska that they do and I would love love love to see Calla and Jonah (*swoon*), their banter and love come to life!
Red, White and Royal Blue: I came through with the unpopular opinion for this book because while I did enjoy it, I didn’t love it as much as everyone else did. That said, I think it’d be a really awesome show and I could definitely see it being a huge hit!
The Flatshare: I absolutely loved the fuzzy feelings this book gave me and I think it would do as good a job as a movie. Just think how cute and sweet it would be seeing these two lovelies on screen 🥰
Daisy Jones and the Six: This is cheating a bit because it’s already being made into a movie (not by Netflix) but I’m so excited for it, it can’t not be on this list 😂 I think I want this to happen mostly so I can finally hear the music.
What do you think of these choices? Do you think they’d make good shows or movies? What books would you like to see adapted?
I rarely watch the romance genre, but I’d definitely make exceptions for The Kiss Quotient and The Bride Test. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by earlier.

I love a good romcom and the fact that it’d be Asian rep (my little Asian heart is squealing) makes it even more exciting for me to think about. It would be so amazing! Haha

Great list! I believe One of Us is Lying is being adapted? Not for Netflix, though–I can’t remember what it’s going to be on. I’d love to see an adaptation of The Lunar Chronicles, too! I’m surprised it hasn’t already happened.

Yours is the third comment I’ve read about OOUIL and I had no clue! Glad it’s put on my radar now so I can look it up 😀 I hope it happens! Also want someone to pick up Lunar Chronicles because omg that’d be such a hit haha I’m surprised it hasn’t happened yet too!

The Lunar Chronicles would make SUCH a good tv series! I actually haven’t read any of the others 🤦♀️ but will definitely be adding a couple to my TBR. Great post ☺️

Omg, right!? I would be glued to that show if it happened! (I feel like it needs to happen…)

Yes to so many of these! The Lunar Chronicles, The Unhoneymooners, The Kiss Quotient and The Bride Test. Why aren’t these all in the works already?? 😉

I *still* haven’t read The Unhoneymooners yet but I think that would be awesome! Now that I think about it, I think Josh & Hazel would also be an awesome movie 😀 I don’t know why all of this isn’t reality yet. I hope Netflix or other producers are keeping an eye out for these posts 😂

Yes!! So many books are getting adaptations right now. These need to be at the top of the list. 😍

Daisy Jones & the Six is supposed to be getting a show, I think. Same with One of Us Is Lying. I hope I’m remembering that right. Anyways. I would so watch either of them!

Ooh, I had no idea about OOUIL! But I did hear about the Daisy Jones news last year. Being done by Reese Witherspoon’s company, right? I’m so excited–I hope that it does happen! I would defo watch both of these 😀

Neverwhere has an adaption! 😀 I actually think it came first if I remember. It’s very 90s and cheesy and has Peter Capaldi in it. It could definitely do with a modern, updated one though.

I actually remembered that the BBC made a show/movie (?) of Neverwhere years ago right after I posted this 😂 I’d be keen to check it out but I don’t know where I’d go about finding it as an intl viewer! But I wouldn’t be mad with a more updated version though 😛

Right!? I think I’d love for all three books to be adapted into a series. That would be so amazing and I need it to happen 😂

I tend to shy away from book-to-movie adaptations, so I never really consider which should books would make good movies. I’ve seen The Lunar Chronicles series on lots of lists today and I agree – it would make a good t.v. series as long as it was done well.
Happy TTT!

I totally get where you’re coming from. I don’t watch many shows/movies but it’s always so tricky when it comes to adaptations. I tend to stay away too (unless I watch the movie first before knowing it was a book lol)! But I can still picture it all playing out in my head and it’d be so awesome… If done well 😛

What a great list! I always think that romance novels make better movies than fantasies! Also, I did not know about Daisy Jones!! I’m learning about all these shows and movies that are being made!

Thanks Leslie! I actually don’t know if I’ve ever seen a romance movie/show that’s based on a book… Or maybe my brain is just catching up but I don’t think so 😂 It’d be awesome! There are defo a lot of adaptations in the work already and I’m excited for them but gah, also so much pressure to get it right! Haha

Ohh, hmm… let me think of some!! Me Before You? I know that a lot of Nicholas Sparks books are movies too! I don’t know about any recent ones though. 🙂

OOOH. I might actually like Daisy Jones as a tv show rather than a book. I thought the book lacked a bit of heart…. no Emer that’s just cos you’re cold and dead inside. Everyone else loved it…. 😂😂😂😂😂

HAHAHA Nah, there were definitely others that felt the same way about it but I listened to it via audiobook (along with the book) and that made a huge difference. Loved the voice actors and that it was full cast 😀 I’m excited at the thought of the show!

We Were Liars! I almost forgot about that make, but I think you are right, it would make an intriguing show.

Oh my gosh We Were Liars, right? Would kill to see that done well. And One Of Us Is Lying yay! Actually I think there IS a show being made of that, or is it her other series? One of ’em, anyway!

I had no idea about OOUIL but now I’m super excited 😀 I’m gonna look it up after this lol I think We Were Liars also deserves to be adapted in that case coz it’d be so good too!

As I did this TTT a bit differently, I didn’t actually speak about the books I think should have moview adaptations. But the two that come to mind are – «The Test» by Sylvain Neuvel and «Dark Matter» by Blake Crouch. I would LOVE to see these two sci-fis on screen!

Oof, Dark Matter! YES! I think that’d be a really great mini series or even a movie maybe but I totally agree 😀 That’s a great pick, Alex! Also totally loved your take for the TTT 😉

I would LOVE to see Red, White & Royal Blue as a movie! I think it would be soooooo good. I haven’t read The Bride Test yet, I keep forgetting that I need to read that one.

I think it’d be so much fun! I think it’d be even more awesome as a series or even a mini series or something so that we can get more from Henry’s side as well because honestly Henry was my fave ❤ Haha

I love him too, would definitely love to get more from his POV. 🙂

You came up with some great ones! The Simple Wild, The Flatshare, and Cinder would all be awesome I think!

Part of me loves the idea of having Simple Wild on screen but another part of me is like NO but it’s so precious what if they mess it up (or cast people who are nothing like the characters I picture in my head)?! Haha 😂
