Reading Habits Book Tag

I was recently tagged by Leah @ Leah’s Book Reviews and Recipes to do the Reading Habits Book Tag*. For some reason I’ve been distractable AF all of today so I thought I would do a short, fun and easy book tag and this one seemed to fit the bill! Thanks for the tag, Leah 😘

*This tag was originally created by TheBookJazz.

Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

I just read on my bed now. But when I used to live in my flat, I’d read on my couch on days when I wanted to feel slightly less lazy by moving one room over and plopping down on the couch πŸ˜‚

Bookmark or random piece of paper?

If I remember to find a bookmark before I start reading then I’ll use a bookmark. If not, then a random piece of literally anything will do!

Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop reading after a chapter or a certain amount of pages?

I try to stop reading after a chapter or paragraph ends. I hate cutting things off mid-way!

Do you eat or drink while reading?

I do sometimes but not always because a lot of the time when I read I’m lying down too πŸ˜…

Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?

Sometimes I’ll put on some chill lo-fi hip hop tunes or classical music to play in the background!

One book at a time or several?

Defo depends on my mood. If I’m in a funky one then I usually have several going all at once but I mostly try to limit myself to one at a time. Just so it’s easier for me to write a review for the book!

Reading at home or everywhere?

No doubt everywhere! Lol

Reading out loud or silently in your head?

If I need to get myself to focus I’ll start reading out loud and then fall silent once I’m in the zone πŸ˜‚

Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

Guilty… Totally guilty. But not always! I only do this when I need to know what happens but I don’t have the patience to read one sentence at a time. So I skim pages to get to the part I want and after skimming to see how things go, I’ll go back to where I originally was and read it all properly!

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

I don’t know HOW people don’t break spines? No matter how hard I try it’s impossible for me to not do. But y’know, there’s a certain level of satisfaction in opening a book with a broken spine πŸ˜‚

Do you write in your books?

I spend so much money on my books, so that’s a solid no. I like to keep them in good condition, thanks!

Readabits Questions

When do you find yourself reading?

Literally whenever I can? Mostly in the evenings after work and blogging, and before catching Zzzs.

What is your best setting to read in?

Do I have a best setting? I think somewhere peaceful (not necessarily quiet) where I can burrow under a blanket with some fluffy pillows propped up behind me so I can get all cozy and zoned in to whatever I’m currently reading. Did I answer this question “correctly”? πŸ˜…

What do you do first: read or watch?

Usually read. But it always takes me forever to get to the read so that means I usually don’t end up reading (or watching) until… much much later if ever. The only exception was probably Game of Thrones (I only read up to book 4 but I also haven’t finished the season and have seen zero spoilers)!

What form do you prefer: audiobook, e-book or physical book?

It’s either physical or e-book. I like the convenience of e-books and I read them much faster than physical books BUT nothing beats the feel and smell of a physical book! Also depends on my mood!

Do you have a unique habit when you read?

I think I’m a pretty conventional/boring/average reader? Unless I have a unique habit that I don’t notice doing while reading but then the answer would still be no πŸ˜‚

Do book series have to match?

YES if possible because I like to keep them together on my shelves and when they mismatch I have to separate them and it actually really irritates me lol

That’s a wrap friends! This was totally the fun/easy tag that I was looking to do today πŸ™‚ I’m not going to tag anyone in particular but if you want to do it then YOU’RE TAGGED!

    1. I mean, right?! I don’t know how people don’t do it. I try and fail every single time coz then I just can’t read the book if I don’t break the spine! Hahahaha saying you’re a spine breaker sounds so bad ass, Emer 🀣🀣🀣

  1. I’ve been known to skim ahead, too. But only within a page or two. Very rarely do I skim to the end. Unless I’m considering DNFing a book. πŸ˜‰

    1. Oh, I struggle with DNFing but I also never skim all the way to the end. Definitely a few pages… Or at least until my curiosity is sated πŸ˜‚ I think if I was going to DNF I’d just read the last chapter haha

    1. I picked up the Illuminae audiobooks the other day and I’ve been “rationing” it because the physical book already made me emotional but the audiobook is making even MORE emotional 🀣 I have so many audiobooks in my library!

  2. I’m always surprised when people can read on their bed, and I’m not sure why. I mean, my bed is comfy for sleep time, but reading time? Ugh. I need to read on my couch. xD I’m a weirdo.

*le gasp* You break the spine?! You monster, you. *snatches pearls* It really irritates me when series don’t match, too, though. Why would publishers do that?! So frustrating.

    1. Haha if I had a comfortable couch to read on I’d definitely be reading there too! As it is, my nan’s couches are awfully uncomfortable. Plus it’s insanely hot outside these days so unless I’m directly in front of a fan or I have the AC on, I can’t even focus to read! Maybe I’m just so used to reading in bed coz I usually read before bed after work? πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

And yes, I’m a total spine breaker (and I’m saying that with a smirk on my face, it sounds so bad ass) haha how do you NOT break the spine, Sammie!? Tell me the magicz. I try not to but it just … doesn’t ever work πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ And I guess it’s all about the $$$ for the publishers. Different versions, more insane book people trying to match series etc. etc. Haha keeping us on our toes while stealing our money πŸ˜’πŸ™ƒ Am I sounding salty? Haha

      1. I have a big wraparound couch (which we were lucky enough to get on clearance or we could’ve never afforded it LOL) with a ceiling fan directly over it. xD So I’m covered! Uncomfy couches are no fun. We had one for, like, 7 years before getting this one.

I dunno … magic? Like, I try not to open the book too wide because it makes me sad when the spine is broken haha. If I buy a book used and it’s already like that, I’m fine. I just don’t want to be the one to do it. xD
