Top 5 Saturday: Trilogies

We’re back with another Top 5 Saturday! I might’ve missed last week’s topic but I will come back to it at some point 🙂 Just in case you don’t know Top 5 Saturday is a weekly meme created by Mandy @ Devouring Books and it’s where we list the top five books (they can be books on your TBR, favourite books, books you loved/hated) based on the week’s topic. You can see the upcoming schedule at the end of my post 🙂 This week’s topic is: trilogies!

I’m surprised to learn that a lot of the series on my TBR and ‘need-to-finish’ lists are trilogies! I like trilogies. I think three books is a good number because it’s just long enough for those who like reading series but it’s also “short” enough for those who don’t like long series. Or simply for those who don’t have the patience to wait even longer for the next book to come out 😅 Lucky for me, almost all the series mentioned below are complete so there’s no waiting time between books and that’s really the most perfect scenario! I’m really looking forward to starting/finishing these series!

First up is the Chaos Walking Series by Patrick Ness. I still haven’t read anything by Ness although I have five of his books (including this full series) sitting on my physical shelf. I got really cool copies too!

I’ve been wanting to read more by Amie Kaufman and when I saw the covers for the Starbound Series I knew there was no way I would be passing these up. Totally cover judging here–they’re STUNNING!

Ah, The Kingkiller Chronicles. I don’t know whether I’m dreaming but THERE IS A COVER FOR BOOK THREE. Is it the actual? I don’t know. There’s still no official release date but there are 2020 whispers and if it happens I’ll be deceased (kidding… But I might actually pass out from shock LOL)!

I have been meaning to finish His Dark Materials for a while now. I enjoyed the first book but didn’t continue with the rest of the series because I wanted to find matching books. Anyone else do that? 😂

I loved The Bear and the Nightingale when I read it last year but I was waiting for the rest of the Winternight Trilogy to deliver (which obvi took forever). Planning to re-read and finish this year!

Upcoming Schedule:

  • 07 March 2020: Trilogies
  • 14 March 2020: Books with Beautiful Covers
  • 21 March 2020: Magical Realism
  • 28 March 2020: Murder Mystery

Have you read any of these trilogies? Any trilogies you’d recommend? Or do you prefer longer/shorter series?

  1. Oh hai, brain twin. These are all also on my TBR. xD I really need to read them. Well, I’ve intentionally not read The Kingkiller Chronicles, because I refuse to pick them up until book three is coming out, so I don’t have to wait like everyone else. You NEED to read Patrick Ness. And I need to read the Chaos Walking series. Are you going to read the books before watching the movie, do you think?

    • GREAT MINDS, Sammie! ❤
Smart move on your part for not picking up The Kingkiller Chronicles until book three is out because yeah. When I first read it I wasn't yet part of the book community and had no clue that the series wasn't finished yet. Woe. It has been a long ass wait 😂 Also, I KNOW I need to read Ness. I've heard a lot of great things about his books… There's just never enough time 😭 Also YES I plan to read the books before watching the movie. I didn't know if it was actually released or not since I saw a lot of hype for it last year and then *crickets* haha now I'm wondering if I should check the rating it got on Rotten Tomatoes 😅 Have you heard anything about the movie?

      • Hahaha I’ve had so many people bemoan how long they’ve been waiting for the third book. xD I’ve learned by standing on the shoulders of giants. 😛

Patrick Ness will break your feels, too. Just as a warning. Looks like the movie is coming out in January of next year, so you’ve got time to read the book still. 😉 They’ll probably start talking about it more towards the end of this year as they ramp up for release.

  2. I accidentally hit send before finishing my reply🙈😂. I have been waiting for a general release before I start the name of the wind and now I finally can lol. I have read these broken stars but the rest are on my tbr. I can’t wait to get to read the bear and the nightingale, it’s on my March tbr but whether I get to it is a different story😆. Great choices Dini!❤️

  3. I loved Chaos Walking, and I have read the first two books of the His Dark Materials series. Someday I hope to finish it. I also have the Starbound series and the Winternight trilogy on my TBR. So having all of those in common, I will have to check out the Kingkiller chronicles. Great list!😊

    • I’ve heard some really good things about the Chaos Walking series. I was planning to read it before the movie came out (or has it not come out yet?) but didn’t get around to it 😅 I hope to finish His Dark Materials soon too coz I want to see the Netflix adaptation 😀 Hope you enjoy all these series whenever you check them out!

  4. I don’t like trilogies. I know, I have to be awkward lol 😂😂😂 I mean I still read them and sometimes I like them…but invariably at least one of the books in the series sucks and I get irked. I’m just so much happier with stand-alones!! 🙈😂

  5. Oh, the Starbound Series’ covers are so pretty! I think I’ve been more in the world of duologies and standalones lately but I’m still waiting for the third book of Enchanters by K.F. Bradshaw! It was one of the first f/f books I’ve read and it will always be dear to me 🙂

    • They’re gorgeous aren’t they? Definitely what caught my eye! I haven’t read anything by K.F. Bradshaw before but I’ll keep an eye out for it. There are just always too many books and not enough time 😂

  6. Oh my Philip Pullmans His Dark Materials are a firm favourite of mine. I’m in love with the two volumes of The Book of Dust he’s recently released too. 🥰 I’ve just added The Bear and the Nightingale to my TBR pile. Hope it’s good. 😉
