#WWWWednesday: 31 July

Friends, it’s August tomorrow. We’re eight months into the year and… I don’t even know what I’ve done with my year besides read! I think it’s kind of scary how quickly time is going. Don’t you think? Or is it really just me? Lol It’s time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be talking about:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

My recent ‘big finish’ was Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Daisy Jones is probably one of the most hyped up books in 2019 and I admit to a great load of wariness in picking it up because even though I’ve loved everything that I’ve read by TJR so far, I was worried this one would let me down. Let me put those shameful thoughts to rest right now because wow, I really had nothing to worry about. I absolutely LOVED it. I will be posting a longer review on my blog soon (because I really can’t stop gushing about it) but for now, you can read my review up on Goodreads! After finishing Daisy Jones on Monday, I was a little worried about having an epic book hangover so I decided to read a fluffy romance (or two). I finished That Second Chance (Getting Lucky #1) by Meghan Quinn and The Consequence of Falling by Claire Contreras. Reviews coming soon!

What are you currently reading?

I’m kind of not reading anything at the moment? I really can’t decide what to pick up next after finishing The Consequences of Falling earlier today. I feel like I’m still in that ‘book hangover zone’ from Daisy, so I’m wondering if I should stick to romance (The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker), move on to some thrilling YA (Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson) or if I should just pick up a fantasy that I’ve been wanting to read for a while (We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal)? I might be reading all three of these before the night is over 😬

What will you read next?

I have a feeling that my buddy read for A Spark of Light has fallen through because nobody is saying anything in the group chat (lol) but if I’m in the mood for it, I think I’ll still pick it up. There are also some ARCs that I want to get to and I’m considering participating in ARC August(?) that I’ve seen a few people mention. I’ve got a few that are fairly overdue and my guilt is kind of eating away at me but I’m also so good at ignoring it? This is why being a mood reader can be so frustrating sometimes!

What are you currently reading? How do you avoid a book hangover?! Leave me a comment and let’s chat 🙂

  1. This year is going sooo fast, I completely agree. I really really need to read Daisy Jones and The Six. I enjoyed Truly Devious for what it was! And I just added We Hunt the Flame to my forever growing tbr haha.

I’m sorry your buddy read probably fell through but that book does look interesting. Have a great day Dini ❤

    1. I picked up Daisy Jones on a whim and I’m SO glad that I did. I would 100% recommend following along to it on audiobook too. It just made the whole reading experience so much better!

The minute I posted this about the buddy read falling through, my group chat came alive again and we’re discussing it this weekend 😂 haha that means I gotta get on with that reading! Hope you’ve had a great day too, Amanda!

    1. I know what you mean. There was something that was holding me back too but then I just randomly picked it up on Sunday and fell straight into the 70s rock era in America. It’s brilliant. Hope you do enjoy it if/when you get to it 🙂

    1. I tried reading a bit of it yesterday and it took me ages to get through one chapter! Granted I wasn’t feeling the greatest yesterday, but I think I’m going to put that aside for now and come back to it later… 🙈 I’m looking forward to Truly Devious though!

  2. I’m super late, so my vote probably doesn’t count, but you should totally read We Hunt The Flame. 😉 Only because I’ve heard such good things about it, and now I’m interested to see what you think about it. 😛 Since it looks like I won’t be able to read it for a while. Struggles of a teensy local library and not enough riches to buy all the books, for some reason. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m also thinking I’ll maybe participate in ARC August. Which feels weird saying that since it is now, indeed, August and I’m late, but that’s nothing new. I so know the feeling of accidentally falling behind on your ARC reads. xD

    1. I actually ended up reading A Spark of Light because my group read decided to come back to life after I posted my blog 😂 I think when I tried to read We Hunt the Flame the first time I was in a really weird state of mind so I will give it another go. I’ve heard such good things about it too! I’m glad that it was one of the books in the Owlcrate box lol

Yes! ARC August! I’m going to post what I need to be reading this month for that today. I’m also late, nothing new there either, but better late than never, right?! 🤪

  3. Yay for That Second Chance!!!! I love Meghan Quinn’s writing. I’ve heard amazing things about TJR, and particularly about Daisy Jones, so I need to read that one soon. I also love Jodi Picoult, but I’m a book or two behind with her. I’ve been more focused on romances lately. 🙂
